Let’s Check the Numbers

Scripture first. Always in context.

Back to the 888 search
From sequence to Scripture

Keep noticing a sequence of eights? Let’s turn to the Word.

Eight appears in covenant signs, priestly worship, cleansing, the people carried through the flood, and a resurrection encounter with Thomas.

The sequence begins the search. Scripture gives it context.Scripture does not define 888 as a guaranteed promise of a new beginning. The passages are rich enough without forcing them into a secret code.

8:8

Begin with real 8:8 passages

A sequence of eights first opens actual 8:8 addresses. Each belongs to its own book and setting.

01

The eighth day and covenant

Circumcision on the eighth day marked Israel’s covenant life and later appears in the New Testament accounts of Jesus and Paul.

02

The eighth day in worship and cleansing

Several Torah passages use an eighth day at the completion of consecration or cleansing. The details differ and should be read on their own terms.

03

Eight people carried through the flood

Peter recalls the eight people preserved through the flood while teaching about suffering, salvation, baptism, and Christ’s victory.

04

Jesus appears eight days later

John places Thomas with the disciples eight days after the first resurrection appearance, where doubt meets the risen Jesus and becomes confession.

Ancient Greek letter values

The Greek name of Jesus totals 888

The New Testament’s Greek form of Jesus’ name is Ἰησοῦς (Iēsous). In the ancient Greek system called isopsephy, letters could also carry numerical values. Adding the letters in His name gives 888.

ΙIota10ΗEta8ΣSigma200ΟOmicron70ΥUpsilon400ΣSigma200

10 + 8 + 200 + 70 + 400 + 200 = 888

A real historical connection

This calculation comes from the New Testament’s Greek spelling and ancient Greek letter values. It is not a modern Strong’s Concordance number.

A necessary boundary

Scripture does not say the name was chosen to produce 888. But if 888 caught your attention, this genuine connection can lead you directly to Jesus.

The number is the doorway, not the destination. Follow it into the passages that reveal who Jesus is, what His name means, and the salvation found in Him.

Pause and pray

Meet me in Your Word and strengthen my faith.

Jesus, meet me honestly in my questions. Lead me into truth, help me recognize You, and teach me to confess with Thomas: my Lord and my God. Amen.
